OBJECT TO SUPPORT RALLY PROTESTING AGAINST MISS ENGLAND 2009

On July 20th 2009 Mind the Gap London Student Feminists are organising a rally to protest against Miss England 2009. The rally will mark the 40th anniversary of bold feminist activism which succeeded in challenging sexist beauty pageants.

OBJECT is delighted to support this event and will be speaking alongside representatives from UNISON, UCU and London Feminist Network as well as Judith Orr (author of Sexism and the System) and Professor Alex Callinicos.

The rally will take place from 6.30pm on Monday 20th July, outside the beauty contest venue (Hilton Hotel, Edgeware Road, London). We would urge all OBJECT supporters based in London to support this rally and take a stand against the re-emergence of beauty contests in universities and mainstream popular culture.
